Workers Day: NLC Makes Case For Retirees, Media Workers, Others

The Adamawa State branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has  tasked the state government to immediately start payment of gratuity and pension arrears of both state and local government retirees.
Stating that retirees in the state are faced with untold hardship as a result of non payment of their gratuity and pension.
Comrade Dauda Maina, state chairman of the union made the observation at the 2018 Worker’s day celebration held at the Ribadu Square in Yola.
Maina also identified  poor funding of media organisations as among factors affecting smooth operation of the organizations.
He observed that the inability of government to properly fund its media Houses was threatening the effectiveness of their services.
” Government should look into the poor funding of Media Houses so as to enable them operate effectively and objectively ” Maina said.
On the issues of  outstanding salaries of Primary Healthcare and Primary school teachers in the state, Maina urged the state government to urgently clear all the outstanding payments.
Responding, Governor Muhammadu umar Jibrilla.  Bindow ,thanked the state Civil Services and Labour in particular for their dedication to service.
According to him, government is in contact with Labour to see how workers living conditions would be improved.
On the outstanding payments of local government staffs ,he said very soon they would start getting payment alerts.
