By; MUHAMMED IBRAHIM & OJO SHOLA, Kaduna
The Vice Chancellor of National Open University (NOUN), Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, has said without teachers there is no future for Nigeria because teachers are the bedrock of any development in the society.
The Varsity don stated this while declaring open the 30th annual congress of Nigerian Academic of Education (NAE) in Kaduna Wednesday.
According to him, education is the mother of all arts and teachers today should be one of the well paid in Nigeria because if they are well paid, they will produce the best. But in situation where the reverse is the case, it will amount to a case of garbage-in garbage-out.
Prof Tenebe further stressed that if the country is ready for peace and development, teachers should be well involved because if you send soldiers to maintain peace, they will come with dead bodies. But if teachers are send there, they will plant peace and development.
Speaking in the same vein, the Director-General of National Teachers institute, Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu said there cannot be quality society without good teachers. He therefore called on government at all levels to pay special attention to teachers.
The National President of NAE, Professor Ugochukwu Ivomi said teachers are not beggars therefore better working condition should be provided for them.
He assured Nigerians that the council will work round the clock to ensure that the education sector get a boost
