A Wheel Chair Mini Basketball Championship organised by the Wheelchair Basketball Federation (WBF) in conjunction with Capital Express Assurance Limited has ended in Lagos with Team Capital Express Assurance narrowly defeating Old School Team A 26-25 to win the tournament.In the third place match. Old School Team B beat Team Taye 18-12 to emerge victorious.
In his remark at the tournament, Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung who was represented by the Lagos Liasion Officer of the Ministry, Bode Durotoye commended the sponsors noting that such tournaments are required regularly to keep the athletes in shape ahead of major international competitions and charged other corporate organisations to take development of special athletes serious.
“We at the Ministry are happy with what the sponsors have done because with regular competitions like thus, our athletes will be in top shape and ready to compete favourably with their counterparts from other countries of the World.
” I want to challenge other corporate organisations to emulate Capital Express Assurance and
sponsor more events for special athletes because there is ability in disability”, he advised.
AGM Retail Services, Capital Express Assurance, Ayo Ogunkeye said that the sponsorship is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility function ,promising that that the company will continue to partner with the Federation.
