The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police in charge of zone 11, Osogbo, Mr Leye Oyebade has charged the police in the zone to add values to community policing.
Oyebade who made the charge on Wednesday while addressing a stakeholders meeting during a one-day familiarization tour to Ondo State Police Command in Akure, urged the police to strive vigorously to carry out their constitutional duties as contained in section 4 of the Police Act.
According to him, they must therefore, reassure the populace, allay their fears and win confidence of the people at all times.
His words, “you must intensify visibility policing through intensive stop and search, aggressive vehicular patrol and use of technical platform to address heinous crimes”.
He gave listed such heinous crimes to include, kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, cattle rustling, rape, burglary, cultism to mention a few.
The AIG disclosed that the Inspector General of Police has approved the establishment of the zonal security stakeholders forum which consists critical stakeholders within the community.
The meeting which consisted of police hierarchy across the command had representatives of religious leaders, market women, youth leaders among others.
It was well attended and issues of relevant importance to peace were discussed.
