All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere has assured party faithful not to lose hope over the outcome of last Saturday’s general elections, saying plans are under way to reclaim the stolen mandate.
Ekere, who gave the hint during a Victory Rally on Wednesday in Uyo, the capital of the state said Akwa Ibom cannot afford to play opposition to the centre.
He accused the ruling party in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of stealing the mandate through electoral fraud committed during the elections.
This, he alleged included votes buying and hiring of thugs from neighbouring states of Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers into Akwa Ibom to intimidate APC supporters from voting at the polls which was to elect the President and members of the National Assembly.
According to Obong Ekere, his party, APC will not spare any effort, including legal process in order to reclaim the lost mandate from PDP in the state.
The APC governorship hopeful while addressing party supporters who graced the event, said that both President Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo have assured him through telephone calls that the party after the collation of results would take necessary steps to get back the mandate, adding that Akwa Ibom would be APC.
His words, “I have good news for all of you. The good news is that our mandate that was stolen by PDP during last Saturday’s elections will be reclaimed.
“President Buhari said I should tell all of you that he has received security information about the atrocities committed by PDP and their agents during that elections.
“He said I should tell all of you that after the collation of the results, we will take appropriate steps in order to get back the mandate.
“He also told me to tell you that the Egyptians you see today, you will see them no more, therefore, do not lose hope”, Nsima stated.
According to him, President Buhari has also urged those who lost in that elections not be worried, as everything would be done to link Akwa Ibom State back to the centre.
He said that the reelection of President Buhari into office was a reflection of Nigerians acceptability of the President as well as appreciations shown to him for the numerous development projects dotted the country, including the railway lines and airport terminals.
Others, he added include the fight against corruption, his selfless service, transparency and patriotism to the process of rebuilding Nigeria.
Obong Ekere said that the Victory Rally which took place at his governorship campaign office in Uyo was meant to thank over 50 million Nigerians who went out and voted for President Buhari during the last Saturday presidential and national assembly elections.
He accused Gov Udom Emmanuel of squandering Akwa Ibom State money without any meaningful in the state to show for it, threatening that the APC government would probe his administration of how he spent the state money.
On the governorship and state houses of assembly elections slated for March 9, Obong Ekere appealed to the people keep their permanent voter cards save and come out on that day to vote for APC.
He also told the people to be calm, adding that the APC led government was alive to her responsibilities.
