We Will End Herdsmen/Farmers Clashes In Oyo State Through Creation Of Surveillance Unit – Ajimobi

Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Monday hinted that Oyo State Government is to create a farmers/herdsmen surveillance unit from its joint security task force code named “Operation Burst” to stem menace of farmers/ herdsmen clash in the state.

The governor dropped the hint in Ibadan while speaking at a stakeholders meeting of Farmers and Herdsmen in Oyo state held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi.

He declared that the unit is to be saddled with the sole responsibility of maintaining peace and stability among farmers and herdsmen in and across Oyo state

In doing this, Governor Ajimobi disclosed that the state government is ready to empower the joint  security outfit (Operation Burst)  with more  vehicles for suvellance unit to perform effectively in the task of monitor activities of the cow rustlers  pretending to be hersmen.

He also emphasized that urgent need for the registration of herdsmen in and across Oyo state as part of the measures to curb the incident of farmers and herdsmen clash in and across the state.

Governor Ajimobi declared that his administration will not fold its arms watching anyone to distrupt the peace which his government has restored to Oyo state, ” let us all imbibe peace and continue to leave as one. We are one and should continue to co exist as members of the same family”

Speaking further, the governor attributed the incensant clash between farmers and herdsmen to greed and  selfishness nature of human being

Oyo state Commissioner of police Mr Abiodun Odude while speaking declared that in the last three weeks, a SARS commander and a 70year old man were killed by the herdsmen in Iseyin while another person was also killed at Ile- Ido and that as at present, 9 dead bodies are yet to be accounted for.

CP Odude stressed that on the killing of the SARS Commander, 9 suspects are already in police net and that more are to be arrested in connection with the murder of the SARS Commander and other crimes related to killing of innocent souls.

The Commissioner of Police while emphasizing the need to embrace peace vowed that men of the Oyo State Police Command had all what it takes to ensure that peace and stability reigns across the state and that whoever wants to disrupt the existing peace in Oyo State will be dealt with ” nobody is above the law”.

The meeting was attended by leaders of farmers societies from across  Oyo state, President of Agbekoya, Alhaji Azzez Akekaka, herdsmen led by the Chairman of Oyo State chapter of Myetti Allah led by Alhaji Yaqub Bello and other stakeholders and heads of all the security agencies in Oyo State.
