Oyo State Police Command is to henceforth arrest and prosecute violent politicians and their supporters ahead of the 2019 general elections in and across the state.
The newly posted Commissioner, Mr Shina Olukolu dropped this hint while briefing journalists at the Command’s headquarters in Ibadan on Monday.
Mr Olukolu who condemned the recent political violence in Ojoo, Igboora promised that Oyo state Police Command would soon begin clampdown on agents of destabilisation in the state.
“We are however not oblivious of the recent violent activities of some miscreants who in the name of politics and in total defiance of our earlier warning caused violence in olaces like Ojoo, Igboora and others. These political thugs who have made violence their trade mark have decided to serve as cogs in the wheel of democratic progress in the state. The violence witnessed in the places earlier mentioned resulted in loss of lives and injuries. To such violent policians and their unbriddled supporters. We say enough is enough”, he said.
CP Olukolu added, “we will henceforth clampdown on these agents of destabilization we will not only arrest them, but also prosecute them. The isolated instances of violence notwithstanding, our efforts to clampdown on criminal elements ahead of the general elections in the state have yielded some results”
The Police Commissioner later paraded no fewer than fifteen suspects arrested for money making ritual, armed robbery, cultism, and recovery of one hundred and fifty bags of Indian Hemp among others promised to rid criminals off the state.
