‘We are not sure we will run for another term or be re-elected…’ El-rufai
 By; Abdull-Ahmed Kadir, Kaduna.
Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-rufai has said he is not sure of running for a second term or be re-elected come 2019 but left for the people of the state to decide.
He made this assertion in the council chamber while inaugurating the new Council of Kaduna State University (KASU) under the chairmanship of Professor Shehu Usman Abdulahi, former Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
“We are not sure we will run for another term or be re-elected. That is up to the people of Kaduna State. But we hope that in the three years that you have, you will do your best for the university” he stressed.
Speaking further, the governor said “please forgive me I am still learning this job. So I ask them what to do and they tell me. So don’t blame me when you hear buildings being demolished, they are the ones who tell me what to do”.
Speaking on why the previous Council was dissolved, El-rufai said it was because it was constituted by the previous administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which he could not stand, though the Council did well and members may be appointed to serve in the current government.
“The last Council of the university was a very good Council; they did a good job, we have no problem with Chairman or members of the Council. But they were appointed by the PDP and we are now new party in charge of the state, and on Saturday the leader of our party and President is coming to get a degree and we just do not think a PDP Council should confer that degree on him.
“So it was a simple matter of drawing a line and say this is our university, it is a new administration. But for a leader of change to be conferred an honorary degree by the agents of conservatism was simply not something that we can live with” he confessed.
The governor said it took them less than an hour to come up with the names of the new Council members because of their “track records, experience, impeccable integrity”, and commitment to the state and the country at large to better its lot, is the motivation for their appointments.
He assured that though going by the University law they have four years tenure after which they can be re-appointed for another four years, the next three and half years he has left as the governor of the state “we guarantee you to do this job”.
Earlier after their inauguration, the Chairman of the Council, Professor Shehu Usman Abdulahi said though KASU is already a strong university, the Council will work to make it the best State University in Nigeria on the basis of hard work, honesty and fairness.
He said base on their experience; they will bring KASU up not just to meet National University Commission (NUC) standard, but best global practices. He assured that they will not disappoint the governor with his expectations and confidence in them.
The new Council members are Professor Shehu Usman Abdullahi, Chairman. Professor William Barnabas Quirix, Vice Chancellor and member. Mallam Husseini Dikko, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, Lagos based Dr.  Maima Bello Osagie, Pastor Sarah Omaku all members.
The Ex Officios are; Alhaji Ibrahim Yakasai representing NUC, Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim representing Kaduna State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Aminu Shehu Lere presenting the state Ministry of Finance. Dr Ahmed Bababjo, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Alexander Kure, Deputy Chancellor Administration.
Others are Professor Ado Ahmed and Dr Ibrahim Kukong representing the university Senate, Mrs Talatu Kure representing the Congregation, and Sani Abubakar, the University Registrar who is to serve as the Council Secretary.
