Violent Protest: 17 ABUAD students remanded in Prison custody ‪

Students of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti(ABUAD) numbering seventeen were on yesterday remanded in Prison Custody over alleged violent rioting and arson.
‪The Police prosecutor, Mr. Samuel  Osobu told the court  that the accused committed the offence  on Feb. 7 at Afe Babalola University  campus, Ado-Ekiti.
‪He alleged that the accused, on the said date, unlawfully committed the offence of arson, by burning houses belonging to ABUAD University security staff and burglary of boutique  belonging to the wife of the ABUAD founder.
‪The Prosecutor added that the students also attempted to rob the branch of Wema Bank situated on the campus.
‪According to him, the offence contravened Section 443(a), 411(2) and 403 of the criminal  code, Cap C 16,Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria. 2016.
‪The prosecution said he had forwarded the case file and sent to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
‪The plea of the accused were not taken as their counsels, Mr. Peter Ogunkile, Chris Omokhafe and 8 others sought for a date of adjournment pending the advice of DPP office.
‪Chief Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye consequently ordered that the accused be remanded in Prison Custody till the outcome of DPP advice.
He adjourned the case to Feb. 12 for further hearing.
