Violent Crime: Police parades about half a million suspects in Kaduna

In a bid to curb violent crime and reverse the recent rise in criminal activities in Kaduna, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone I, Ballah Nasarawa has paraded 458 suspected Kidnappers, drug peddlers among others in Kaduna State Friday afternoon.
He gave this number during the press briefing Friday at the Police College Officer’s Mess in Kaduna saying that there would be no room for criminals to operate in the state.
AIG Nasarawa led a high powered team of Policemen comprising of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) Special Protection Units (SPU) the Intelligence Response Unit (IRU) and the Forensic and Crime Data Unit (FCDU) all from the Force Head-quarters, Abuja in collaboration with Kaduna Command to raid the hideouts of the suspects.
“We have identified many criminal hideouts of these armed bandits across the state and equally have a dossier of some renowned car snatchers who usually come to Kaduna, snatch vehicles from innocent citizens, go to other states of the federation and sell them to some notorious receivers. Throughout intelligence outfit, we were able to beam our search light on those receivers, who are based in both the Northern and Southern parts of the country and we shall bring them to book very soon”.
According to AIG Nasarawa, ‘’the Police in the past ten days have arrested 8 suspects namely Lawal Usman, Zakari Yau, Mohammed Sani, Sule Bako, Mustapher Sadiq, Babangida Sule, Usman Abdullahi and Bako Shaaban who were arrested in connection with the case of the three clergies; Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Dziggau, Rev.Yakubu Talba Dzarma and Rev. Iliya Anto
“The following notorious kidnappers were also arrested in Rigassa: Rabiu Mamuda, Ahmed Aliyu, Stephen Barde, Aminu Hassan, Usman Hassan and Ibrahim Gambo. Some exhibits including a dane gun and some live ammunition were recovered from them.
“Similarly Yusuf Musa, Mohammed Tukur Ibrahim and Isah Musa and several others all suspected kidnappers, were arrested in Maraban Jos.”
Others are Ibrahim Gambo, Dauda Hassan, Yusuf Musa, Mohammed, Tukur Ibrahim, Isah Musa, Buhari Anyawu, Samuel David,  Tukur Usman, among others.
The AIG also said that the items recovered from the suspects include AK47 riffle with 16 rounds of live ammunition, other foreign currencies, 4 AK47 riffles with many rounds of different types of ammunition and a sizeable quantity of hard drugs as well as Indian hemp and other intoxicants.
 “239 other suspects were apprehended in various raids carried out in some identified locations in the entire state. A total of 458 suspects are currently in our custody and are being interrogated and profiled’’ he added.
Nasarawa further lamented the long overdue transfer of some senior Police officers in Kaduna Command stressing that some have stayed in the Command for over 25 years, some 30 years and others 32 years.
“My second mandate which is the re-organizing of the Command is in progress. The process will see the transfer of many Policemen out of the Kaduna Command. Hopefully we will conclude that by next week, though the transfer will be in batches so that vacuums will not be created’’ he maintained.
