The management of  the University of Ibadan International School on Thursday prevented  female Muslim students of the school wearing Hijab from entering the school premises.

It was learnt that the Hijab wearing female Muslim students were turned back from the school premises following a resolution reached by the school’s Board of Governors asking the Management to enforce and ensure that the dress code of the school be maintained

Sources close to the school said the 8 Hijab wearing female students of the school on arriving the school early Thursday were asked to comply with the school’s dress code before they could be allowed into the premises .

The students were reported to have insisted that they are not ready to put off their hijab as it was in line with their religious belief which in effects was not affecting anyone in and outside the school premises.

It was gathered that all the explanation by the Hijab wearing female Muslim students were turned down as they were asked to stay away from the ISI premises.

Commenting of the barring of the Hijab wearing female Muslim students from entering the ISI for the academic activities, the Chairman of the Concerned Parents of the School’s Female Muslim students, Alhaji Abdulrahman  confirmed the barring of the students in a statement he issued  on Thursday morning titled
“Breaking: All Hijab wearing students locked out at the gate of ISI”.

Alhaji Abdulrahman Balogun in the statement said the school also locked no fewer than eight Hijab-wearing students in one of its libraries when they refused to remove their Hijabs on Wednesday and that the ISI management after locking the students thereafter conducted two tests for their colleagues in their absence.

The Chairman of the Concerned Parents of ISI Female Muslim students gave names of the affected female Muslim students as Aliyah Adebayo, Aliyah Dokpesi, Akifah Dokpesi, Fadeelah Akinbile, Iman Akinosho, Ikhlas Badiru, Mardiyyah Yekinni and Hamdallah Olosunde

“ISI 8. Our Hijab heroines that were sent out of class today. Aliyah Adebayo, Aliyah Dokpesi, Akifah Dokpesi, Fadeelah Akinbile, Iman Akinosho, Ikhlas Badiru, Mardiyyah Yekinni and Hamdallah Olosunde. On Hijab, we stand for ISI 8” he said

Emphasizing that the Muslim parents will continue to resist all attempts to intimidate and harass their children in the school, Alhaji Balogun said, “we will resist all attempts to intimidate and harass our girls. They went to their classes and coerced them, hence some of them removed their hijabs while those who refused were sent out of their classes and locked up in the library till the close of school and made sure there was two test in the class.”

Alhaji Balogun then cautioned  that the Concerned parents will hold the school Principal, Mrs. Phebean Olowe responsible should any unfortunate thing happens to the students, saying, “the parent will hold the principal Mrs Phebean Olowe responsible should anything untowards happend to our girls.”

” This is the last warning not to coerce our daughters into submission just as she did to several other girls who reported her to us.
We shall use all legal means to ensure that the fundamental and God given rights of your children are trampled upon by the Principal”.
