The United United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has urged the Zamfara State Government to ensure the release of counterpart funds to sustain and continue to benefit from the activities of international development partners in the state.
The call was made at a two-day State Level 2018 End Year Review Meeting organized by the Zamfara State Government and UNICEF Sokoto Field office to ascertaining the level of partnership and commitment towards enhancing the survival of women and children in the state during the year under review.
Speaking, the Chief UNICEF Sokoto field office, Alhaji Muhammadeen Fall appealed to the state government to release its counterpart funds for the 2019 programmes ahead of time.
Fall said the none payment or delaying the release of the state counterpart funds will be difficult for UNICEF to conduct its activities in the state.
He said UNICEF activities are sustained by the payment of counterpart funds by the government, therefore it is important for the state government to ensure it releases the funds timely.
Fall however commended the government for releasing N50 million for the WASH program, stressing that the funds had assisted immensely for the success of the program in the state.
The Secretary to the government of Zamfara State, Prof. Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Alhaji Yakubu Sani Haidara commended UNICEF and other international development partners for their dedication towards improving the welfare of the people of the state.

“UNICEF activities is commendable as it has been providing adequate logistics to the state government on healthcare services, education and nutrition to women and children in the state”, he said.
