A United Kingdom government delegation led by the Head of West Africa
Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London, Mr.
Rob Dixon on Monday evening paid a working visit to the National
Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The UK delegation which included the Deputy Head of Political Section,
British High Commission, Mr. Stuart Gardner and Senior Political
Adviser, British High Commission, Mr. Osaro Odemwingie was received by
the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun accompanied by the
Deputy National Chairman (South), Engr. Segun Oni; Deputy National
Secretary, Hon. Victor Giadom and Chief of Staff to the APC National
Chairman, Mr. Edwin Ikhinmwin.
During the meeting, the APC National Chairman expressed the commitment
of the President Muhammadu-led APC administration to deliver on 2015
election promises to Nigerians. He also highlighted achievements
recorded by the administration in the area of economic
diversification, infrastructure, anti-corruption and security,
particularly in the Country’s North East. Odigie-Oyegun thanked the
UK government for its continued cooperation and support for the
administration.
Speaking to journalists after the close-door meeting, the leader of
the UK delegation and Head of West Africa Department at the Foreign
and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London, Mr. Rob Dixon said the
meeting dwelt on the forthcoming 2019 General Election and the UK’s
engagements in Nigeria.
“We talked about the extent of the UK’s engagements in Nigeria and
also asked the APC National Chairman on his perspectives on political
developments in Nigeria. We talked about the breadth of the UK’s
relationship whether it is what we are doing to help Nigeria fight
Boko Haram in the Northeast and supporting economic development across
the country. We also talked about shared interests for a smooth and
peaceful elections and what the prospects for the campaign might be in
the course of the next 12 months.” Mr. Rob Dixon told journalists.
