U-21 Beach Volleyball: Nigeria Qualify For‎ World Championship In China

The Nigeria U-21 male and female teams have qualified for the World Championship slated for June 2017 in China after a brilliant outing in the just concluded U-21 Beach Volleyball Africa Nations Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
Twelve countries had qualified for the Africa championship‎ but only eight countries showed up out of which Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, Mozambique and Congo qualified for the world cup for the male category while in the female category, Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa and Mozambique qualified.
Although Nigeria’s male team was placed third by points in spite of winning their matches except the match against Egypt which they lost 2-1, the team bagged the Best Blocker and Receiver of the championship.
The male team humiliated their counterparts from Morocco, South Africa, Sudan, Togo, and Congo by two straight sets each, while they lost to only Egypt 1-2.
The female team although qualified for the world championship, lost two of their matches to Mozambique and Congo but defeated Morocco, Sudan, South Africa and Egypt.
Speaking to newmen at the Kaduna International Airport‎ on Monday on arrival aboard Egyptian airline to the waiting arms of the Chairman Beach Volleyball Commission Engineer Musa Nimrod and other officials from the Volleyball Federation, the captains of the Team Nigeria, Ogunshina Obayemi and Orazulike Amaka‎ both thanked God for the successful outing.
They averred that they would have performed even better not for challenges of late camping and funds but expressed optimism that with early camping and adequate financial preparations, they are hopeful of making Nigeria proud at the world championship in China.
The head of the delegation and number one beach volley ball referee in Nigeria and West Africa, Surveyor Samuel Timothy expressed satisfaction with the performance of the teams.
He expressed however that there were challenges‎ but thank God for qualifying for the world championship following the brilliant performance of the teams.
On their part, Engineer Nimrod and the federation’s Secretary ‎ Maikano Alhaji‎ Adamu commended the performance of the teams and assured of early camping preparatory to the world championship.
Engineer Nimrod harped on the usage of grass root players whom he said has all it takes to make Nigeria proud at any level of championship now and in the future.
