With less than three months to the commencement of the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for May this year in Poland, former Skipper of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo has. cautioned the Paul Aigbogun led side to be focused in order to post a good performance at the world stage.
He told New Nigerian Sports in Lagos that based on the not too good performance of the team at the just concluded AFCON U-20 finals in Niger Republic, there is need for the technical crew to fortify the team before hostilities begins in the Eastern European country.
” Nobody is happy with the performance of the team in Niger Republic but that’s football and such disappointments are bound to happen but that is not enough to condemn the entire team” began the former Everton and Fernerbahce central defender.
” What I expect the technical crew to do now is to beef up the team, improve on those areas they discover the team is deficient look for good strikers and defenders and .most importantly the NFF must organise some quality friendly matches as build up to their participation at the junior Mundial”, noted the one time Standard Liege and Olympic Merseille player.
Yobo while expressing confidence that the world cup bound team will be different from the one that went to the continental championship however cautioned that preparations should start now if the country hope to post a good performance in Poland.
” The only solution to correcting the lapses in the team is early preparation. Although the World Youth Championship is coming up in few months time, but I believe a lot of differences can still be made if the team is fortified and the best players shortlisted at the end of the day”, he Explained.
