Motorists plying Lekki-Epe expressway may now heave a sigh of relief as two suspected notorious traffic robbers terrorising them in the area have been remanded in Ikoyi prison.
The suspects, apprehended by police operatives were said to have been put behind bars after their arraignment at Igbosere Magistrate-Court 10 on Thursday, November 1st, 2018.

Identified as Akpan Samuel and Ani Chukwuma, the suspects were alleged to be armed robbers that specialise  in robbing commuters during traffic hours.

Our correspondent gathered that they were nabbed on 29/10/2018, by operatives of the Command led by the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division, CSP Isah Abdulmajid.
It was also learnt that investigation revealed during interrogation that their modus operandi was to mount the pedestrian bridge, Maruwa bus stop, Lekki/Epe expressway and were able to monitor the traffic and carefully select their target at that vantage position.

After the selection, according to police sources, they thereafter, swoop on their target and rob them of their valuables by means of a big hammer used in smashing side glasses and windscreens of drivers who refused to roll down their glasses when commanded to do so.
The source added that the hammer and an improvised pistol that appears like a perfect prototype of a berratta pistol, were recovered from them.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command CSP Chike Oti while confirming the arrest said the  activities of the suspects were a source of concern to the Command.
In a release made available to journalists Sunday, he stated that  this prompted the Commissioner of Police Edgal Imohimi to direct the DPO to mobilise all assets at his disposal to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the hoodlums.
According to Oti, the CP assures that the activities of this set of criminals will soon be a thing of  past,as the command has increased surveillance along all routes with heavy traffic.
