After putting up an impressive run which saw them win all the matches played, Kaduna Trappco have emerged winners of the 38th Kaduna International Trade Fair Polo Tournament.

They were crowned winners after beating Profile Team 3 ½-3 in the last match played on Sunday at the Kaduna Polo Club grounds.

First runners-up are Dokaji, who won one of their two matches, while Profile finished as second runners-up of the Trade Fair Cup.

For the President’s Cup, Funage Farms emerged winners, while Team RISAA from Port Harcourt finished second.

ZAZ Project put up a brilliant performance to emerge winners of the Captain’s Cup, leaving B&S Global Link no option, but to settle for the second spot.

Emotions however ran wild when the late Mohammed Bello Cup aimed at immortalizing the player who died while training was presented to the winners and runners-up with the children of the deceased making appearance during the presentation. Team A won Team B to win that trophy which is dedicated to kids who are beginners in the game of polo.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the presentation of trophies to winners and runners-up, President of Kaduna Polo Club, Alhaji Suleiman Abubakar (Magayakin Keffi) said that he was impressed with the success of the mini tournament.

He praised the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA) for sponsoring the tournament, while also appreciating others who supported.

Speaking further, he said that the Kaduna Polo Club is unique for being the number one club in terms of developing young talents.

“Kaduna has unique distinction of having the highest number of beginners in the game of polo in Nigeria,” he explained.

Commenting on the centenary celebrations coming up a few months from now, he assured that the club would be wearing a new look ahead of the fanfare that will accompany the celebrations.

The Magayakin Keffi is also optimistic that there would be an influx of teams that would be participating in the tournament organized in honour of the centenary celebrations.

Also speaking, the Tournament Manager o Kaduna Polo Club, Honourable Ibrahim Kontagora said that the management team of the club is making good progress.

“We are trying our best and making good progress. We hope and pray to bring back the whole body of polo in the country together. As you can see, Kano were here, Fifth Chukker were here, Ibadan and others were also here,” he said.

He described the loss of the life of one of their members during a training session two weeks ago as sad, while assuring that safety measures will henceforth be ensured in preventing such occurrence in the future.

“We pray that the soul of Mohammed Bello who lost his life two weeks ago rest in peace. Polo is a gentle man’s game but at the same time rough. But it has its ethics. When you follow the ethics, there would be less accidents recorded,” he said.
