The Arewa Youth Forum has frowned at calls by the Southern and Middlebelt leaders, for calling on President Muhammad Buhari to reverse the appointment of Professor Aliyu Mauro as the Director General of the Niger Environmental Standard and Regulatory Agency (NESREA).
This was contained in a statement signed by its acting National President, Ahmed Mohammed Zagi, made available to newsmen on Tuesday April 23, 2019.
“The attention of Arewa Youth Forum has been drawn to publications in Business Day, Thisday Newspapers and Tribune online and many others of March 29, 2019 respectively, of a demand by the South and Middle Belt Leaders calling on His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, to reverse the appointment of the newly appointed Director General of the Nigeria Environmental Standard and Regulatory Agency (NESREA), in person of Professor Aliyu Jauro.
“We are shocked and amazed by this joint unpatriotic and unwarranted position from these Elder Statesmen calling for the removal of a fellow Nigeria from office on the premise of his ethnicity and religion, at a time when the unity drive of Nigeria by Nigerians is on the front burner,” they said.
The Arewa Youth Forum said that it condemns “this unacceptable act of Intolerance and remains resolute in the fight against regions, personalities or acts capable of bringing Nigeria backward or creating divisible atmosphere on grounds of Tribe, Ethnicity and Religion.”
The group said that they are fully aware that 80 to 90 per cent of the work force of NESREA are from the South and Middle Belt.
“Also, it is on record that from Inception and within the period of its 12th year formation, NESREA has been led by DGs that hail from the same region, yet nobody complained because we feel that the Principles of Separation of powers as Enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be allowed to thrive,” it stated.
They therefore, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for finding the Professor of Industrial Chemistry, Malam Aliyu Jauro worthy and his consequent appointment to manage the affairs of the organization.
“The Arewa Youth Forum has no doubt that no ethnic or religious group in Nigeria is devoid of highly qualified men and women that can be engaged to contribute their quota and add value to nation building,” it concluded.
