Tension in Sagamu over cultists’ killings

The Ogun State Police has arrested no fewer than 40 members of the Aye cult group from various part of the state over the killings of 11 persons on Thursday at Emuren close to Sagamu, in Sagamu local government area of the state.
New Nigerian gathered that there was tension and fear over the development, in Sagamu township as restive youth protested alleged Police indiscriminate arrest of suspected cultists that killed at Emuren, on Thursday.
Speaking with the Police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi on telephone, he said the arrested suspects were picked at Emuren, Ago Iwoye, Ijebu Igbo, Ota and Sagamu township, declaring the the cultists action had become recurring decimal during their yearly anniversary.
“We have arrested about 40. We are going to charge them to a Court on Monday for murder, because lives have been affected. Those we arrested last year during similar anniversary are still in court facing murder charges.”
However, a source disclosed to our reporter that the Police had stormed Sagamu township to Emuren, where the cultists operated to search for suspected cultists, arresting innocent people thereby turning every body to cultists.
There were unnecessary searching, alleged indiscriminate arrest and shooting, which paralyzed commercial activities in the early hours of Friday.
According to the source, “at Ita Oba area for example, sporadic shooting and tear-gassing of residents turned the bustling area into a ghost town for several hours.”
In the ensuing melee, a police vehicle clashed with a car, and an Okada operator was allegedly injured.
Meanwhile the police public realation officer Adejobi said normalcy had been restored in the town as at 2.00pm on Friday.
