Teachers Registration Council to flush out quacks – Registrar

Registrar/Chief Executive of Teachers Research Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye on Wednesday hinted that the council is set to flush out quacks from the teaching profession in Nigeria.
The TRCN Registrar/Chief Executive dropped this hint in Ibadan during a chat with journalists on the activities of the council in repositioning teaching profession in the country.
Professor Ajiboye disclosed that plans are on by the Council towards having a comprehensive data on the number of registered and qualified teachers in and across the country.
He stressed that the time has come for the councils’ State Coordinators to embark on massive recruitment of teachers to register with TRCN while the Council will not relent in its efforts towards ensuring that every qualified teacher in the country is duly registered, certified and licensed by TRCN.
The TRCN Registrar/Chief Executive stressed further that the Council would soon embark on a State by State analysis of the number of teachers already registered, certified and licensed across the country.
Speaking on the Federal government’s planned recruitment of 500,000 teachers, Professor Ajiboye advocated full involvement of the council in the exercise to ensure quality assurance.
“The quality of education of a nation is strongly influenced by the quality of its teachers. We must be fully involved in the entire recruitment process so that the quality of persons to be recruited through the scheme as teachers is ascertained,” he said.
The TRCN boss who lauded the Federal government gesture assured that the Council will not relent in her efforts towards ensuring that every qualified teacher in the country is duly registered, certified and licensed by TRCN as it would help in the production of reliable statistical data of teachers in the country within the shortest possible time.
Professor Ajiboye declared that a reward mechanism would be put in place to appreciate exceptional performances at all areas of the Council’s activities, saying, “we shall prioritize the Mandatory Professional Development Programme for teachers across the Country”.
He then advocated full support of the management team of the Council in his quest to foster the needed development in line with the change mantra of the present administration.
