Mr. Samson Ada, the Permanent Secretary, Taraba  Ministry of Education on Wednesday said at least 14 secondary school Principals have been queried over their schools’ alleged involvement in examination malpractice conducted by the West African School Examination Council (WAEC).
Ada disclosed this at a public Accountability Programme ‘Face the Press’ an interactive session with journalists initiated by Mr Emmanuel Bello, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Darius Ishaku on public Affairs.
It could be recalled that Taraba came first in WAEC in  northern Nigeria and eight in the country in the 2017 result released by the external examination body.
Ada explained that the warning and query letters issued to the Principals was part of the disciplinary measures put in place by the ministry to ensure quality educational services to the people of the state.
“Principals are not supposed to leave the school premises while examinations are going on, so that if there are issues they can address them, but from the letters written by WAEC to the schools intimating them of why results of some subjects in their schools were withheld, it was obvious the principals were not on ground during the examination.
“We are going to do a follow up on their matter to ascertain what exactly happened so as to prevent future occurrence,” he said.
Ada also explained that government was doing everything possible to address issues that led to the strike embarked upon by the State University.
“When the new Vice Chancellor came, he saw the need to introduce new faculties and courses which led to increase in manpower and rise in the salaries bills of the University.
“The University has come to stay and government is committed in making the University one of the best, so very soon, the issues will be resolved.
“The bill of quantity in respect to the parameter fencing of the University which is one of their demands  is ready and work will soon commence on the fencing.
“We want to appeal to the striking lecturers to exercise patience and understand with us to move the University and the state forward,” he appealed.
Ada appealed to the students and parents to remain calm, saying discussions had already started in a bid to quickly resolve the issues.
