The Vice President, South West, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr Boye Ajayi has rubbished a recent communiqué purported to have emanated from the zone, which bore his signature.
Also, the Secretary of the Zone; Mr Dele Ogunleye has expressed surprise over the inclusion of his name as part of the signatories despite calling the instigators to order.
According to Mr Ajayi, “we were to meet, but that meeting never held and nobody showed me any draft before it was sent out. So, I needed to find out from where the communiqué that had my name came from before I could respond.”
“From my investigation, Osun chairman’s name was conscripted without consent; in any case, no knowledgeable person on the working of SWAN will be part of that kind of communique; how can you detach yourselves from a registered association that is statutory in states across the country” he queried.
Wondering how four states’ chairmen and secretaries; some, not even registered members could impersonate his office and person, he called for serious disciplinary action against the errant states officers by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the association to serve as deterrent to others who may wish to ridicule the association in future.
“I never attended the meeting and never saw a draft of the communiqué before it was sent out. So, it is wrong for anybody to hold me, my secretary and chairman of Osun state as part of it,” he stressed.
Ajayi said ” I have severally brought up the issues of Lagos, Oyo, Ekiti and Ogun in NEC meetings; I think it’s time for NEC to invoke its power as prescribed in the statutes on the leadership of these four states, to save me from consistent embarrassment as VP”
Mr Dele Ogunleye said his exclusion from the so-called meeting Was faulty ab-initio, hence an aberration for his name to have been included among the signatories.
The Zonal Secretary, therefore urged members of the Association and public to discountenance the communique as it was not the position of the zone.
Ogunleye, pledged the Zonal leadership support to any move by the Association’s national leadership to stem the rascality being exhibited by some chairmen in the zone.
Ondo State chairman, Mr Akintunde Akinsemola had earlier warned those behind the purported communique about his chapter’s inclusion on the basis that, the intended action was not well thought out and against the dictates of the Association’s Statutes.
