The reported suspension of 19 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of the Kaduna North chapter has been described as a hoax and may potentially impact the membership of Uba Sani, an aspirant to the Kaduna Central senatorial seat.

Already, ward executives across the local government, angered by the purported suspension, are believed to have perfected plans to sack Malam Uba Sani who they believe to be behind the suspension.

Describing the purported suspension of the members as a hoax, secretary of the Kaduna North chapter of the party, Alhaji Isa Osama, said the move was a wrong step deliberately aimed at hampering the party’s chances in the coming local government polls and subsequent elections.

According to Osama, the targeted suspension which purportedly affects a powerful and influential member and senatorial aspirant, Lawal Adamu Usman, fondly called Mr LA is not only a misstep but also ultra vires and an abuse of the party’s constitution.

Osama said the process for the discipline of members provided in the APC constitution was grossly abused amounting to a serious breach and brutal encroachment on the fundamental rights of the affected members.

Quoting relevant sections of the party constitution and the Nigerian constitution that guarantee individual rights to freedom of association and and to fair hearing, Osama said the purported suspension has clear political implications on the party as well.

Reacting to Mr LA’s inclusion in the suspension list, his special consultant on media, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman said the action constitutes a deliberate incursion to the members’s fundamental rights safeguarded by several national and international treaties and conventions as well.

Suleiman said Mr LA would rather pursue political options for the resolution of the crisis in order to maintain the cohesion in the party.

“A thoroughbred democrat with huge followership in the APC, Mr LA believes in the continued cohesion of the party under the guidance of the executive governor of the state, Malam Nasir elrufai.

“He has all along been deploying immense resources towards ensuring unity of members and has never been involved in any activity detrimental to the general interest of the party.

“As a young politician with bright political potential, Mr LA would rather not be drawn into the dirty cutthroat approach to politics by a handful of inconsequential desperados,” Suleiman said.
