Commercial banks and government offices in Kebbi State were on Thursday shut down following the announcement by the national officers of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at midnight via the state chairman, Comrade Halilu to commence nationwide strike over the minimum wage.
Our correspondent who went round Birnin Kebbi metropolis saw both civil servants and other businessmen grouping by the road side discussing the situation caused by the strike.
A civil servant, Malam Abubakar Birnin Kebbi who works in the state service lamented that he was not happy with commencement of the strike, because he was yet to withdraw his September salary which was just released by government on Tuesday evening.
“A messenger, Malam Bello said ” I was on my way to bank today to collect my salary from ATM when I noticed there was nobody in the bank and instead of them to put money in their ATM, they refused. Honestly I am not happy with the strike.”
Students of both secondary and primary including higher institutions were seen coming back home due to the strike.
