Shi’ites Sisters Forum accuses Army of rape, demands release of children/husbands
By; Isaac Odeh and Alex Uangbaoje, Kaduna.
Female arm of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shi’ite) know as Sisters Forum has accused the Nigerian Army of raping their colleagues before killing them when they raid the house of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, his followers, and the movement’s temple in Zaria, and demanded for the unconditional release of their children and husbands being held in different detentions.

The Forum’s Kaduna Chapter’‎ made the allegation during a protest match to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kaduna, Tuesday to demand the immediate release of their leader, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

‎Speaking on behalf of the group, Aisha Hassan, Secretary of the Forum alleged that “Some of the women have even been raped before they were killed by the soldiers as confirmed by some of the survivals who were also tortured after their arrest by them.

‎”The soldiers molested our women and removed their hijab which is a serious violation of Islamic right exhibited by the Nigerian army.

‎”These demonic acts perpetrated by the Nigerian Army has not only raised the army’s human rights abuse records but has also turned a lot of women into widows, children into orphans and has also succeeded in wiping out a lot of families.”

‎She also accused the government of not showing any form of remorse in a coordinated attack by the army which killed over one thousand of their members in Zaria, saying it is “display of inhumanity and gross violation of fundamental human rights and war crime against fellow Nigerians.”

‎According to her, the attack was a ploy by the government and the Army to paint the sect and its leader in a bad light so as to drive the members into instigating sectarian sentiment and creating tension in the country.

‎She added “we are aware that it is a deliberate attempt to intimidate and instigate us into mob actions, we will never resort to anything outside the normal legal process of seeking redress.

“This is evident in the way we acted last year when the same Nigerian Army attacked our members and killed thirty four of them including three biological sons of our leaders Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.

‎”Even now they have killed three more of his biological sons making six within a year, we still remain undaunted, calm and resolute.”

‎She therefore, call for the immediate and unconditional release of their leader and his wife, their husbands and children who were unlawfully arrested and detained in various security facilities across the Northern States. She also demanded that the corpses of their members killed by the Army be released to them for burials according to Islamic rites.

“We call for the release of our husbands and children that are in
illegal detention facilities across the northern states. Corpses of our members killed by the army should be released to us with immediate effect for burials according to Islamic rites’ she asserted.

She further requested the government to accept its crime against humanity by paying Diyyah (compensation for death) to all affected families and relations.
