Pandemonium erupted in Igando area of Lagos at the weekend, as a four- man robbery gang was said to have invaded Dapsey petrol station,  killing a police officer identified as sergeant Akor and wounded two others.
As reliably gsthered, the dare-devil armed bandits were said to have stormed the gas station located at Olowonla bus stop along Igando -lba-Lasu Express road at about 9pm  in a Honda car, shooting sporadically.
According to one of the victims, who is an Army personal ( Names withheld), the bandits armed to the teeth had arrived the scene in commando style, targeting himself and some police officers standing beside a parked petrol tanker at the station.
His words, “Those bad boys stormed the petrol station in a comando style of operation in a Honda car. they targeted us where I was standing with those police officers near one of the parked petrol tankers, hitting us with the car with a view to crushing us, we fell down and I hit the floor sustaining this wound on my face and immediately they started shooting indiscriminately and one of the bullet’s  hit my leg and I ran for cover.”
In the confusion that ensured, the now wounded Army officer, said one of the armed police officer, who was also hit by the car, lost his rifle to the robbers and escaped with injuries.
The incident which lasted for over an hour,  took place few meters away from Igando Police Division.
While  narrating how sergeant Akor was killed, another eye witness Mr Frances Adeleke, who was at the scene of the crime, recounted how the late police officer who was said to have stepped out of the petrol station before the attack, had on sighting the robbers, confronted them without his gun as he was said to have kept his gun behind before going out.
His words: “As the robbers started shooting, the sergeant came back and ran straight to them and they started shooting at him but surprisingly, the bulliets did not enter his body and he was shouting ‘ you no fit’ you ‘you no fit’
Discouraged, the robbers seeing that their bullets could not penetrate the police officer, fleed with the police rifle they had earlier confiscated, leaving their smashed car behind.
But sergeant Akor against advise by some eye witnesses and gas station staff, was said to have pursued them to recover the police rifle.
However, about half an hour later, the gas station manager identified as Tijani, now in police custody, was said to have led some staff to trall the sergeant.
But when the search team arrived at ‘O’ mark bus stop, Adeleke said, the sergeant corpse was found by the road side, just a bus stop away from the crime scene.
As at press time, his corpse and the robbers’ car was said to have been removed to the mortuary and Igando police Division respectively, while the wounded officer were said to be recuperating at an undisclosed hospital.
Speaking with the proprietor of the gas station, Mr Dapo, he confirmed that the resistance of the late police officer prevented the robbers from gaining access into his office to steal money.
However, he frowned at the inability of the Igando police Division to respond to their alert when the robbers strucked.
He regrated that the robbers were not challenged by operatives of Igando Division despite having robbed three petrol stations including Forte oil at Lanre bus stop the same night and injuring a lady at power petrol station.
Unconfirmed report indicated that the lgando Divisional police officer, SP Rawlings Ogoezi, has been deployed as a result of the multiple robbery incidence.
Efforts to confirm the incident from the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr Chike oti, a Superintendent of Police (SP), was not possible as he was yet to respond to message sent to his phone.
