Results-Based Management: UNICEF Commences Training For Staff, Partners

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as part of strategy to provide a learning space for staff and partners to strengthen knowledge and capacity for the application of results-based management to improve programming and better demonstrate government and UNICEF’s contribution to results for children, on Wednesday commenced a three-day training for both staff and partners in Kaduna State.
The training is aimed at better developing participants capacity to applying RBM principles to the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation of programmes and in reporting on
results.
It is also meant to empower them to use available tools and approaches to strengthen results-oriented programmes for children in different programming contexts, identify key actions needed to strengthen managing for results in their work.
UNICEF Kaduna Chief of Field Office, Dr Zakari Adam, in his presentation on the RBM learning package, urged participants to develop synergy between top down and bottom up approaches in considering programmes for children.
He charged them to always ensure that they focus on the most vulnerable and underserved segments of the society. Respect, protect and facilitate the rights of claim holders and duty bearers to participate in any of their programme.
Zakari, said they own the obligation to improve the capacity of claim holders to claim their rights and duty bearers to fulfill their duties, advocate with decision makers based on experience and evidence. And also create an enabling environment for all.
The UNICEF Chief, noted that the rights of children are human rights that are universally guaranteed and legally binding, where everybody is entitled to the same principle and enjoy by virtue of being human.
He emphasized that no child should be treated unfairly, irrespective of his or her sex, status whether able or disabled.
He further explained that meeting the needs of children is different from granting them their rights.
Zakari, lamented that despite the provision of various child rights laws, children are still left to suffer. He therefore, called on participants to teach them how to claim their rights.
He advised the participants, not to only take photographs whenever they see a child in any bad situation, rather they should equally make sure, they assess and analyse the situation.
