Reps To Probe Lake Chad Basin Boss Over Abuse Of Office

The House of Representatives on Thursday resolved to investigate the alleged flagrant abuse of the resolutions of the House by the Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Development Commission (LCDC).
This was sequel to the adoption of a motion by Hon.Abubakar Chika Adamu (Niger, APC) on the matter on the floor of the House.
Debating the motion, Adamu noted that the House on November 2016 passed a resolution mandating the Lake Chad Basin Commission to conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of mismanagement, lawlessness and misappropriation in the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).
The lawmaker further noted that the Executive Secretary and other relevant officers of the LCDC are to answer questions raised but the Committee’s invitation which was shunned by both him and other relevant officers.
He expressed worries that the LCDC boss has penchant for for fragrant disregard of the Nigeria Parliament on the basis of a claim to immunity relying on a memo purportedly issued by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 20th December 2016.
The APC lawmaker also hinted that the LCDC is of strategic importance to Nigeria as a result of which Nigeria stands out as a major contributor to the funds of the LCDC.
He also States that such funds are supposed to be put into use in accordance with Sect 88 (1)  (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
