Reps Summon Adeosun, Udoma Over FG’s pension Liabilities

THE House of Representatives has invited the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun  and that of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, to appear and brief it on all measures being adopted  to settle the federal government’s liabilities to its pensioners.
The invitation of the duo was sequel to a motion sponsored by Hon. Hassan Shekarau and Five others, noting  the poor conditions of pensioners.
The Ministers are expected to appear before the House at plenary on Thursday April 6, 2017 at 11am prompt.
Shekarau while moving the motion on behalf of his colleagues said “the challenges facing Nigerian pensioners is becoming alarming”, adding that such cut across both the contributory pension scheme, and the defined benefit scheme.
The lawmaker stated that the total liabilities of the contributory scheme was about N285 billion, and the defined benefit scheme of about N174 billion, which have accumulated over the years.
Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara had on earlier Wednesday, assured the Nigerian Union of Pensioners of his plan to meet President Muhammadu Buhari on the over N200 billion pension liabilities, and how it could be offset as soon as possible.
Many members spoke in support of the motion, it was subsequently  adopted through voice votes, when Dogara put a question for the votes.
