The House of Representatives has lifted of the suspension it gave its former Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin since 25th September, 2016.
Jibrin was suspended for 180 legislative days, with the condition that he also present a written apology, over his allegation of padding of the 2016 budget against some leaders of the House, and also the allegation that members collect running costs.
The House described the lawmaker’s action as “bringing the institution to disrepute”, but while the period of the suspension had elapsed, Jibrin could not return to the House for failing to comply with the written apology condition as resolved by the House, vowing never to do so.
Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara who announced the suspension lifting on Tuesday March 14, 2018, stated that Jibrin has met all conditions, “and can resume sitting anytime from now, if he so wishes”.
Jibrin in the letter of apology said he was acting “in compliance with the House’s resolution of 25th September, 2016, suspending me for 180 legislative days…”
