The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation have said that they are impressed with facilities at the Kaduna International Airport.
This was expressed by the the  Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha  when they were on an oversight tour of the facility on Tuesday.
“I am impressed with NAMA facilities at this airport. There are a lot of allegations, we have found out and we will report according to what we have seen.
“But seriously speaking, the terminal building is small to contain the huge traffic they are experiencing now.   We believe that before long, they would finish the work at the terminal because we found out that they have not completed it, she said.
Speaking further, she said that they were concerned about the safety of the passengers, one of the reasons that informed their visit.
“Furthermore if you see entrance (from the runway), construction is still going on, though the Managing Director,  Federal Airport Authority (FAAN), Mr. Sales Dunoma  assured us that before two weeks, it will be completed.
“We are concerned about safety of passengers and we have seen the parameter fence, work is still ongoing.
“Generally speaking we have come, we have seen and we hope that they will fast-track to make sure that passengers comfort and safety is ensured”, she added.
She said  that, in speaking the fact as they were, she won’t deceive anybody, but say that at least they have achieved minimum standards
“ If there are certain reports that brought us here, that is not for the press, that is for our own consumption. But everything is to gear up the safety of lives and property for all our citizens.”
She also called for the upgrade of the Maiduguri Airport which she said is very critical, because of the security challenges being experienced in the country.
“That airport should be up and running in case of any emergency. They should operate 24 hours. Security of lives and property is very paramount,” she concluded.
Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Sales Dunoma, said  that  as far as they are concerned, the terminal is okay, but said that they would  love to have a bigger facility because of the number of passengers that are passing through.
He said Abuja and Kaduna passengers are combined in a terminal building that is meant for Kaduna.
“We are managing it properly”, he added.
Dunoma said, facilities at the Kaduna Airport are being already replicated at other airports.
“We have done something better than Kaduna at the Enugu Airport. As time goes on, we will continue to improve on our facilities,” he assured.
The visitors were received and taken round facilities at the airport by the Managing Directors FAAN, Mr. Sales Dunoma and Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Mr. Fola Akinkuotu.
Places inspected by the committee include: the terminal, runway, fire bay, parameter fence, hanger, instrument landing system.
