The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that the management will step up inspection, both scheduled and unscheduled of corps members in various locations to reduce cases of rejection.
Kaduna State  Coordinator of the the scheme,  Dahunsi Mohammed said rejection of Corps members is an obstacle militating against achieving assigned and expected duties in achieving a defined goal.

Mohammed stated this, during a paper presentation at a workshop of the NYSC/Corps Employers held on Wednesday in Kaduna.
The workshop is with the theme : Tackling Emerging Challenges in Youth Corps Administration Through Greater NYSC / Stakeholders Participation.
He said Corps members spend the largest chuck of their service year with their employers and is what the employer make of them that will be etched in their memory of NYSC.
He said Corps rejection can cause lack of synergy between Corps employers and the state secretariat.
“As long as posting are done without strict compliance with Corps employers request, the challenge of Corps rejection will persist.
He added that rejection of Corps members , underutilization and evasion of service can also lead to Dearth of graduates in areas of specialisation such as engineering, technology, medical sciences, ICT etc.
“That can drive the country developmental agenda. What obtains is a glut of graduates in the humanities and the arts which a country striving for technological development like Nigeria barely needs.
“The effect of this is too many Corps graduates of arts and humanities chasing fewer placement for primary assignment which automatically leads to rejection.
According to him,  underutilization of Corps members to a extent is a function of the level of underdeveloment of our society. ” for example if a Corps doctor, engineer, teacher or any other professional finds himself posted to where there are no facilities to work with, invariably such a Corp member will be underutilized.
Mohammed said the NYSC has devise strategies to counter these challenges by organizing a forum where management and Corps employers rub minds on best practices to optimally utilised the skills of Corps members to check sharp practices.
He added that the management of NYSC has also stepped up inspection, both scheduled and unscheduled of Corps members in their various locations.
“Field inspectors have also been put on their toes as they too are paid unscheduled and impromptu inspection visit.
Earlier in his remarks,  the Director General of the scheme,  :Brig -gen Suleiman Kazaure  said the NYSC has the tradition of organizing round table discussion with stakeholders especially with Corps employers with the aim of strengthening mutual capacity for the effective engagement of Corps members.
He said the capacity to accept and absorb the Corps members provide the suitable learning environment for the young men and women to become change agents in the development of the country.
“The Corps employers workshop is not only to appreciate the enduring partnership between the scheme and the employers but to also identify challenges in Corps administration and proffer solutions.
According to him, the theme was conceptualize to help the forum draw from the experiences of Corps employers in ensuring effective utilisation of Corps manpower.
Kauzaure said the NYSC management has made strides in the areas of Corps welfare by consistently sensitising State Governments on the need to upgrade orientation camps for the comfort of Corps members during orientation programmes.
“We have also been undertaking advocacies to ensure that States and local government provide lodges.
He added that the scheme has recorded success in the online registration and clearance of Corps members to stem evasion of service and other unwholesome practices by the Corps members.
Also speaking the Kaduna State Commissioner for Youths ,Sports and Culture Daniel Danauta thanked the NYSC for reviving the interaction session with the view of addressing challenges.
He said the workshop provides ample opportunity for managers of the scheme and organisations that connect or utlilized the services of the Corps members to rub minds on the operation of the scheme and to take critical look at emerging trends and challenges facing it with the view to proffering solutions to them.
Represented by the Director Of Youth and Culture Emmanuel Akut said they look forward to the outcome of the workshop because of the policy the ministry have adopted.
