Rape case on the raise in Kaduna but we are mapping strategy to curb crime – CP

Rape cases and defiling of females minors, some by their male parents is on the increase in Kaduna State but the Police is studying the pattern of crime and putting measures in place to curb them.
The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, Ibrahim Adamu disclosed this Tuesday during a courtesy call on Kaduna State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He revealed that two aged men all above sixty years are currently in custody of the Police for defiling their minor daughters both below the ages of ten.
“I am doing my best to study the crime trend in Kaduna and mapping out strategy to curtail it” he stressed, asserting that Kaduna crime trend can be grouped into three; Southern Kaduna, ethno-religious dimension, Birnin Gwari-Zaria, cattle rustling and the central zone battling with juvenile delinquency, youth restiveness among others.
On the occasional disturbances by sets of rival youth groups known as Sarasuka, Yanshara in various communities within the metropolis, the CP said the Command has also mapped out strategies to curtail their violent acts, especially as Eid-El-Fitr approaches.
He assured that in the various communities, the leaders of the gang groups are being identified and picked by the Police.
“We are entering the Sallah and there is need for you to enlighten the general public on the need to be security conscious, so that they don’t fall prey into the hand of hoodlums.”
“I must appreciate your efforts and I must say kudos to all to all of you, I wished to solicit your supports to enlighten the general public because as you are aware, there is general security challenges in the country, and Kaduna is not out of it.”
He also revealed that “We have intercepted a syndicate that specialises in Automated Teller machine (ATM) card cloning and other financial crimes using the social media to send messages to unsuspecting individuals. Some members are arrested as we trace them to even South of Nigeria”.
He sought for Media cooperation in fighting security challenges in the state and nation at large. “Through our collaboration and our concerted efforts, we have been able to maintain some level of security in the state.
“This has been achieved, not by our efforts alone but through your collaboration as well, so, I must thank you and I urged you not to please relent in your efforts towards collaborating with us.
“Keep on giving us the necessary support to ensure that we bring peace and security in the state.”
He stressed that “We get useful information through the media coverage which has aided the Police. There is general security challenges in Nigeria and Kaduna is no exception” he enthused.
“My doors are open for the media always for clarification and I am more than willing to respond to your enquiries always.
He urged the media to enlighten the public on security risk and others as we approach Eid el Fitr celebration.
He gave the State Police Command Emergency Numbers which he said are toll free and open 24 hours, and the public can use to pass useful information across to the Police for any help.

On Kaduna-Abuja highway and incessant robbery and kidnapping, he said the corridor is becoming safer due to the number of personnel and vehicle deployed by the Police to man it on daily basis.
Earlier in his remark, Kaduna Council Chairman, Comrade Garba Muhammad applauded the arrest of kidnappers in their large numbers and asked the Police not to relent.
He also commended the judiciary for the prompt arraigning of suspects and prosecution.
Muhammad assured of continues support of the media and the council in ensuring peaceful and united society in collaboration with the Police.
