Many families in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital are counting their losses owing to torrential rainfall which submerged their once comfortable homes while sleeping on Sunday night.
The rain accompanied with a heavy storm suddenly left many in Uyo, especially areas where roads construction work were ongoing no-go places with inhabitants crying for help from the state disaster management agency.
One of them, is Mr. Iniabasi Ekanem, a native of Onna Local Government Area of the state but resides at Mobil Estate near Shelter Afrique, Oron Road, Uyo.
Ekanem and his family offered their prayers before going to bed on Saturday night, July 6, 2019, unknown to them that the following day being Sunday will come with a devastating news.
With no heartbreaking thunder that accompanies most rain fall, Ekanem did not know that the early morning drizzling which started at about 5am could render him totally traumatized, with several property and valuables gone. No! the devil-like flood which accompanied the rain fall barely 45 minutes after it started.
Ekanem lives on Road one, D26 by the side of the house of Mr. Charles Udoh, a Commissioner designate and a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
In the scourge, the flood, typical like the operations of the commandoes, took over Ekanem’s compound, parlors, kitchen, and in the process destroying household items and documents in his private office. His cars were equally affected.
As at when filing this report, the victim and his family were planning to relocate to a hotel to enable them reorganize themselves, evaluate loses and possibly come out of the trauma.
Truly, the State Disaster Management Agency surely needs to come to the rescue of the Ekanem’s family while the relevant authorities need to address the flood situation in the Mobil Housing Estate in other parts of Uyo, the city capital to safe lives and further destruction of property of citizens.
