PSC Boss Stresses Need For Collaboration To Reposition Police

The chairman of Police Service Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith has said there is need for close collaboration between the commission and the police force in order to reposition the force.
Speaking during a courtesy visit on him by the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris Thursday in his office, Smith noted that there is need for the two government agencies to work closely so as to quickly put structures in place to reposition the police.
He however assured the Inspector General that the Commission under his control will do its best to assist the Police but noted that there is need for the two government Agencies to work closely so as to quickly put structures in place to reposition the police.
Smith, who reiterated his dissatisfaction with the public image of the police, stressed that the Commission will want to quickly work with the police to change the negative perception about it.
” I want a positive perception for the police, let’s work closely, I assure you that the Commission will assist you”, Smith told his visitor.
The commission boss also made a case for training and retraining in the police and also the need for accommodation for officers and Men of the Force so that they can be properly settled to give of their best.
In a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head Press and Public  Relations, the PSC Chairman called for closer supervision in the Police to ensure that Officers work within the dictates of the law.
He  further recommended the setting up of the IGP Monitoring team specifically for checking the conduct of police personnel especially those working on the nation’s highways to ensure they work as expected of them.
Smith told the IGP that the Commission was preparing for the monitoring of police conduct during the coming Osun Governorship election and the 2019 General Elections and advised that he should ensure that his men are properly educated to operate within the established guidelines for police men on election duties.
Speaking earlier, the IGP pledged the loyalty of the Force to the new Chairman.
Idris also requested for the support and assistance of the Commission Chairman to move the Nigeria Police forward.
