Cases of malnutrition estimated to be about 795 million people worldwide can be reduced drastically through several methods, including personal hygiene.

Nutrition Specialist, UNICEF Kaduna Field Office, Chinwe Ezeife handed out the advice, while presenting lectures at the two-day workshop on malnutrition for Kaduna journalists ongoing in Zaria.
According to her, conditions like diarrhea when prevented, can deal huge blows to the scourge of malnutrition.
She lamented that unhygienic habits like open defecation greatly endanger health of the populace, which is estimated to be carried out by 46 million people in Nigeria, with 33 million cases recorded in rural areas.
Ezeife said that in Kaduna State, 0.2 per cent of the populace dispose their faeces in the open, while 19.4 per cent dispose same in garbage.
She explained that such developments, make the rich in the society eighth times live longer, just as she pointed out that one in three Nigerians drink unsafe water.
While suggesting ways to use food intake in preventing malnutrition, she said that if women had access to resources like men, the hungry people in the world would be reduced by 150 million people.
