Former Director General Media and Publicity to former Governor Ramallan Yero of Kaduna State, Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki has urged journalist to adhere strictly to the tenets of the profession by been objective and factual in their reportage.
The Director General gave this advice at the press conference organized by the Nigeria Union Of Journalists Kaduna State Council to mark the 2018 World Press Freedom Day with Theme : Keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and the Rule of Law.
Maiyaki while chiding Journalists for unethical discharge of their duties, asked government to stop the harassment of journalists in the state adding that journalists should be allowed to do their jobs without fear of government intimidation
“The clampdown on journalists and media houses should stop. This government should stop intimidating Journalists “, he advised
In his remarks, Chairman of NUJ Kaduna State Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf said as the fourth estate of the realm, the Nigerian media ought to be among the best paid in the country considering their role, importance and the hazards involved while discharging their professional duties.
Said he: “It is painful to note that some media houses, even with poor salaries are still unable to pay their staff”.
