President Muhammed Buhari is willing to end the lingering dichotomy between Polytechnic and University graduates in the country because of his drive to encourage technology and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
The Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic Dr. Mohammed B. Ibrahim stated this at the National Association of Polytechnics Students (NAPS) 2016 Legislative Summit/National Senate Meeting held in the institution.
Speaking further on the dichotomy, the Rector said it is on record that Polytechnics especially Kaduna Polytechnic has excelled in several competitions where the institution emerged as the best among old and new generation tertiary institutions in the country and beyond.
Dr Ibrahim said “I am surprised that the issue of disparity between HND and BSc is still a subject of discussion as both qualification should be treated equally”.
According to him, Kaduna Polytechnic is passionate about technological advancement because it drives the future.
He advised the government to urgently resolve the dichotomy so as to improve the standard of education in the country.
Earlier the Deputy Senate President of NAPS, Comrade Abdulmajeed Oladimeji called on government to put a stop on the discrimination because HND holders have suffered enough in the country.
“This act of discrimination is not stated in either of the following constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, public service rules, financial regulations, civil service handbook, federal establishment circulars, scheme of service”, he said.
Comrade Oladimeji pleaded with President Buhari to renew the tenure of the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic as he has performed beyond expectation.
