Men of the Oyo State Police Command on Saturday rescued a 10-year old girl in Ibadan from a room where she was chained and locked for three days by her father.
New Nigerian learnt that the 10year old girl identified as Precious John was locked in the room without food for the three days.
The father of the girl was said to be on the run as at the time of sending this report having reportedly sneaked out of his house on sensing police presence.
Oyo state Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Adekunle Ajisebutu in a statement confirmed the rescue of the 10year old girl, saying it was the neighbours of the girl that alerted the police.
According to SP Ajisebutu, police detectives stormed the Ajeigbe area Ring Road, Ibadan resident of the 10 year old girl father following a tip-off from neighbours.
“On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that three padlocks were used to lock the room. The locks had to be broken by the police before the little girl could be rescued. The girl was immediately taken to the station, properly fed and later taken to police clinic for medical attention”he said.
SP Ajisebutu while disclosing that the case is now under investigation, hinted that efforts are on by the police to arrest the fleeing father of the rescued girl.
