Heats by police operatives have forced some suspected armed robbers to abandoned their weapons in a secondary school in Lagos.
The arms.and ammunition, which include one Magnum double barrel pump action rifle, Double barrel pump action, One Berretta pistol, 9mm live and ten live cartridges, were said to have been abandoned by the bandits at Eko Boys High School, off Martin Street in Mushin area of the state.
Reliable police source informed that the exhibits were neatly concealed in a sack and clinical kept in the premises of the school, whose some of its students are renowned for cultism.
Our correspondent gathered that the Divisional Police Officer of Alakara Police Station, CSP. Michael Buba led detectives to recover the items following a tip off by a member of the community on 31th May. 2018 at about 10.30am.
Confirming the recovery, the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi attributed it to the growing stronger police/community partnership and the visibility police strategy of the command.
He noted that the criminals who abandoned the sack know they risk police scrutiny thus, they decided to abandon the weapons and toe the humble path.
A release by the police boss reads, “On the 31/05/2018, at about 1030 hours, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Alakara Division, CSP M. Buba was tipped off by a community member, that a sack was kept in the premises of EKO Boys High School, Off Martins Street, Mushin.
The DPO led a team of Policemen to the school and recovered the sack; when it was opened, the following items were found in it: One (1) Magnum double barrel pump action rifle, Double barrel pump action, One Berretta pistol, 9mm live and Ten live cartridges.
From this incident, two remarkable things happened. The first is that, the Police/Community Partnership is growing stronger everyday hence the stream of credible information to the police.
The second is that, the visibility policing strategy in place in the Command is a huge success. Criminals who abandoned that sack know they risk police scrutiny thus, they decided to abandon the weapons and toe the humble path”.
