Police nab British citizen for allegedly purchasing five babies at N5M

A British citizen simply identified as Asabi Adebayo has been arrested by the Police in Ibadan for allegedly purchasing five babies at N1million each from Port-Harcourt, Rivers state.
New Nigerian gathered that the five babies (two males and three females) included four toddlers of four months old, six months, seven months, and eight months and a two year old baby.
Briefing journalists in Ibadan Thursday, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Leye Oyebade disclosed that the 60 years old woman was arrested while allegedly perfecting plans to fly the babies abroad for sale.
CP Oyebade stressed that the woman allegedly brought the babies to one orphanage home in Ibadan to obtain certified Police report for each of the babies through the home.
According to the CP, Asabi ought to have escaped if not for the patriotic behavior of the officials of the orphanage that promptly reported the matter at the Iyaganku Police station which led to her being arrested by the Police.
He maintained that following her arrest, detectives from the Oyo Police Command have accompanied the suspect to Port-Harcourt where she claimed to have bought the babies for N5million, but that they were unable to apprehend those that allegedly sold the babies to the 60 year old woman, adding that the said woman in Port-Harcourt who allegedly sold the babies to the suspect will soon be arrested and be made to face the wrath of the law.
Narrating how the 60 year old suspected was arrested, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Iyaganku Police Station where the case was reported, Mr Ojopagogo
stated that ” a woman, who operates an orphanage Home in Ibadan came to our station last Thursday and reported to us that one 60 year old woman came to them that she has five children and that she needed Police report for the children to be flown abroad.
“So, on the receipt of the information, our detectives led by one woman Superintendent of Police from the Juvenile Welfare Section went for the arrest of the suspect. So, when we got the suspect arrested, she told us that she got the children for N5million, that is, a child for N1million and that she bought the children from one woman in Port-Harcourt. So, we travelled with the suspect to Port-Harcourt, unfortunately the woman could not be seen”.
As at the time of sending this story, it was gathered that the five babies are still with the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs, Child Welfare while the suspect is presently assisting the Police in their investigations to ascertain the true source of the babies.
Also present at the Police Headquarters during the parade were members of various Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO), officials of state Ministry of Women Affairs, and stakeholders in child welfare.
