Weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp with a street value of over N17 million have been intercepted by police in Lagos.
The cannabis, were said to have been loaded into two vehicles, one Toyota Sienna bus with registration number GGE 886EV driven by one Mudashiru Sulaimon and a Citroen bus marked JJJ301XV driven by one Olowo Owolabi, aged 32 years.
As reliably gathered, the exhibits were wrapped and divided into five and 34 bales each, loaded into the vehicles respectively.
Our correspondent learnt that the consignments were impounded by police operatives attached to Elemoro division on Tuesday 24th April, 2018 at about 1.00 pm , following intelligence information from members of the public.
While conforming the report, the Commissioner of Police Lagos Command. Edgal Imohimi disclosed that the drivers of the vehicles were also arrested during the operation.
According to the police boss, the drivers upon interrogation confessed that they were hired to convey the drug by the owner, a notorious 32 years old drug baron named Gafar Ademolake.
Consequent upon the confessional statement of the drivers, Edgal informed that the said Ademolake was apprehended on Wednesday 25th April, 2018 for interrogation.
The police commissioner disclosed that Ademolake in the course of interrogation confessed to be the owner of the consignment and that they were imported from.Gbana through the aid of a woman popularly known as ” IYA Ghana “.
” Consequently, on Wednesday 25th April, 2018 at 2000hrs, the said Gafar Ademolake ‘m’ was arrested and interrogated. He confessed to be the owner of the whole consignment valued at N9M.
He further confessed to have imported the cannabis from Ghana through one Iya Ghana currently living somewhere around mile 2 Lagos”.
Edgal said efforts have been put in place towards arresting the said Iya Ghana due to the fact that her name has been ringing bell in connection with drug peddling cases.
