PLSHA rejects Lalong’s six month extension for LG chairmen
By; Buhari B. Bello, Jos.
The Plateau State House of Assembly Wednesday rejected the six month extension for the Local Government Management Committee Chairmen requested by Governor Simon Bako Lalong.
The State Assembly which commenced sitting at about midday rejected the request during a plenary session shortly before the presentation of the 2016 budget by the governor, at the State House complex.
According to the Assembly Speaker; Peter Azi who read the letter of the request, Lalong asked for the extension to enable the state government set in motion modalities for the next council elections in the state.
Soon after reading the letter, PDP minority leader, Daniel Dem, representing Jos South argued that the six month extension contradicted the agreement made on the floor of the House Assembly which said for whatever circumstances, “only two month” would be added to the tenure of the Management Committee Chairmen and not six month as demanded by the governor.
Responding to the two month extension noted by Dem, the APC majority leader in the House, Henry Hynkop, representing Shendam, seconded the two month extension since it was a resolution of the House.
Our correspondent reports that the Management Committee Chairmen who were sworn-in October this year were to vacate office January  based on the three month initial request by the governor.
