Plateau: How 8 Were Killed, 3 Villages Razed In Daffo

A day after the ugly incident, more details of the gruesome attack is being unveiled after  about eight persons including barely a year-old baby were reporterly killed  and several others wounded in attacks on three villages in Daffo district of Bokkos LGA of Plateau by unknown gunmen.
A reliable source told our correspondent on Friday in Bokkos that virtually all the houses including worship centres in Josho, Ganda and Hottom villages were razed down by the assalaints.
The source said that the attackers began the invasion aroud 11.00pm of Thursday at Josho village and extended it to the others two villages and even to Daffo town on Friday.
Mr. Danjuma Mabas, councillor representing Daffo said, “eight people have so far died among them are Mrs Naomi Zakaria, who was shot in the stomach died at the Plateau Specialist Hospital on Friday, while a baby less than a year also died from a gun wound.
“Other victims are Mr Philemon Mallo and one Mr Solomon Zeleng alias Mr Ox, who was shot in the head thereby shattering his skull and brain; he died instantly with nobody bold enough to stop and pick his dead body as everyone was scampering for safety, ‘’ the source narrated.
Contacted, Major Umar Adams, spokesman of the Military Operation Save Haven (OPSH), said, “ yes, we are aware of the attacks but we are yet to ascertain the number of casualties but we are aware of the death of the less than one year-old baby.’’
“When the report came to my officers over there, the first four women that were reportedly shot were rushed to the hospital for medical attention but when some youths mobilized themselves  to confront the attackers, that unfortunately ascalated the situation.
“`But the good news is that our officers and men were able to contain the situation and brought it under control; we have so far arrested five persons in connection with the attacks.
“As for the internally displaced persons (IDPs), most of them have taken refuge in Catholic and COCIN Churces in Bokkos town, while the injured are are being treated at Bokkos Cottage Hospital and Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, ’’ the OPSH spokesman disclosed.
Adams called on the people of the area to exercisef some restrain and allow the security agents deal with the situation and ensure restoration of sanity to the entire Daffo district and Bokkos LG as a whole.
Mr Simon Angyol, Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Bokkos Local Government, who also confirmed the attackes described them as “very sad’’ and “attack too many.’’
He lamented the numbers of death and injuries recorded in the attack as well as the  large numbers of the residents displaced.
According to him, “we have hundreds of IDPs taking refuge in churches and nebouring villages and Bokkos town especially with their relations.’’
He called on the Federal and State Government to come to the aid of the victims most of whom he said were women and children a situation he said had overwhelmed the local government.
