The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole on Monday hinted that Federal Government has released N420million each to all the 36 states in Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory to revitalize Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs).
Professor Adewole dropped this hint at the University College Hospital (UCH) during a chat with journalists after his working visit to the hospital.
According to Professor Adewole, the N420 million each to the 36 states across the country and the FCT was released last week to serve as a seed money from the Federal Government to the state in helping them revitalize the primary healthcares in their areas.
He stressed that there was no doubt that the Federal government’s gesture in the health sector will go a long way in reversing influx of people that need health care into tertiary hospitals.
Professor Adewole maintained that Federal government is determine to give more money to all the states that performed well in the subsequent years as a way of compensating them for a job well done.
Speaking further, the Minister noted that UCH was capable of handling any medical case with the available manpower and facilities and that to boost achievements of the hospital, Federal government has picked UCH as one of the seven health facilities to be upgraded this year.
He stressed that the hospital “is in best position to reverse medical tourism in the country considering the available manpower and facilities in the hospital”.
Earlier in the day, the Minister  commissioned the Total Quality Management unit in the hospital as well as paid visit to various departments, wards, theatres and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the hospital and the Kola Daisi Foundation (KDF) centre for primary and community health.
