Pension fraud: You can’t arrest me —Maina dares NASS

ACTING Director-General of the Customs Immigration, Prison and Pension office Abdulrasheed Maina yesterday declared that “I am not under arrest. Nobody has ordered for my arrest. Nobody can arrest me.”
Maina who stormed the Senate Committee room 213 where he kept the Legislators and other stakeholders in the Pension Affairs waiting from 11 a.m. to about 2pm despite an order that the Inspector General of Police produce him yesterday, came in the Company of six combat ready men from the Department of State Security Service that formed a ring of body guards around him.
He walked into the Committee meeting room casually just as the Joint Committee Chairman on Pension Aloysius Etok was announcing the adjournment of the public hearing which could not hold because it was once again shunned by Abdulrasheed Maina who had previously shunned the Committee about five times.
Despite his sudden appearance, Chairman of the Committee went ahead to read out the warrant of arrest jointly signed by Senate President David Mark and Clark the Senate Ben Efeture, dated 13th December 2012 read “ pursuant to the powers conferred by Section 89 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended) a warrant is hereto issued by the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the arrest and compelling of attendance Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina… be produced by the Nigeria Police Force before the Joint Committee on the Investigation of Pension Funds on Wednesday 19th December 2012 at 12.00 noon…”
But speaking with journalists after the Committee adjourned; Maina declared “I don’t think I am under arrest. It’s just mere talking. Nobody has ordered for my arrest.”
The Committee had declared that it has uncovered fresh 195 billion Naira Pension fraud.
