The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Oyo state governor and Oyo State House of Assembly before the Federal High court sitting in Ibadan over its plan to conduct local government election in the state on May 12 .
However, Jistice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court has adjourned hearing of the case till May 15, following the absence of the lead counsel of the defendants, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyo State, Oluseun Abimbola, in court.
PDP, in the suit numbered FHC/Ib/CS/42/2018 is challenging the INEC, OYSIEC, Governor of Oyo state and Oyo State House of Assembly, on the claim that certain things about the proposed conduct of the election are unconstitutional as well as improper .
At the mentioning of the suit, Oyo state Director of Civil Litigation and advisory Services, Barrister S.O. Adeoye led other counsel to defend the second, third and fourth defendants while Dr Nureni Adeniran led the PDP counsel team.
Barrister Adeoye told the court that the Attorney General who wants to lead the case could not be present in court as he was deeply involved in the burial rites of the Speaker,Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Michael Adeyemo, who died on May 27.
Barrister Adeoye stressed that he had discussed with the Plaitiff’s counsel, Dr Adeniran earlier and that they have agreed to seeking an adjournment on the mattet
The judge, Justice Ayo-Emannuel then adjourned the case till May 15 for hearing.proper.
