A forum of parties chairmen and their candidates in Zamfara State have condemned the call for the removal of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Asma’u Sani Maikudi by some aggrieved politicians, describing the call as spurious and selfish political gains.

The chairman of the forum which comprises of over 40 political parties chairmen and their governorship candidates, Malam Shehu Husseini (Waziri Kucheri) made condemnation on Tuesday in a press conference in Gusau.

Husseini who is also the state chairman of Hope Democratic Party (HDP) said the call by the disgruntled politicians in the state was not only done in bad faith but also meant to tarnish the REC’s hard earned reputation.

“The REC had been fair and transparent to us the political parties in the state and we have been enjoying official cordial relationship with her and her staff since her arrival as Zamfara state REC, and she has exhibited a good sense of maturity and we are proud of her, so all the allegations by few unpatriotic citizens disguising in the name of politicians is barbaric and uncalled for and we reject it”, he said.

The forum also condemned the call for protest by the aggrieved politicians as I’ll timed considering the precarious security situation in the state.

“We condemn the call for protest by those unscrupulous elements in the name of politicians, because if we look at the current political tensions and insecurity facing the state, no good Zamfara indigene will call for protest, as anyone with grievances should follow the due process and seek for redress in any court of law not by calling for protest”, he said.

Husseini urged the security agencies to invite the unpatriotic citizens and place them on serious security watch.

The forum commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting free and credible Presidential/National assembly election in the state.
