Hoodlums numbering about 50 on Wednesday stormed a community in Kaduna metropolis, attacking anybody in sight with dangerous weapons causing pandemonium as residents scampered for safety, an eyewitness confirmed.

Angwan Kudu, in  Ungwan Rimi  located in Kaduna North Local Government area, one of the four metropolitan local government areas in Kaduna City has been subjected to series of similar attacks from the Yan Sara Suka in the past.

Eyewitnesses of the recent  attack however said the Wednesday attack is the most daring and scary that left many casualties with different degrees of injuries and property worth several thousands carted away by the attackers.

One of the victims, a tailor Malam Usman told our reporter that the attackers broke into his shop and threatened him with dangerous weapons after which they looted the shop.

“I was working to meet my customers target this morning and suddenly I noticed people running helter shelter,  but I remained glued to my sewing machine working to meet target only for me to see some weapon-wielding youth in my shop,  I was lucky to have escaped to my father’s compound, but my customers clothes were carted away,  I even lost my phones to the rampaging youth,” he said.

A Chinese resident in the community, told our reporter that he was able to escape the attackers onslaught by God’s grace.

According to him “I cannot tell you is my strength that saved me,  I can’t remember when last I did athletics, but today I thank God for these legs,  they saved me from this daredevils who are obviously out to kill anybody in sight.  They are blood thirsty,  I don’t think they have any other reason to attack this peace loving community.

Investigations however, revealed that the boys may have come on retaliation mission.

A source who confided in our correspondent said a thief was recently killed close to the community and the attackers may be his gang members suspecting the vigilante group (Kato Da Gora) to be responsible for the death of the thief.

The source stated further that this is not the first time such kind of attack is taking place,  but the Wednesday attack came in different dimension and coming during Christmas celebration, which is capable of sparking a large scale statewide crisis.

He however, called on the state government to take proactive measures to curtail such occurrence, which is rumoured to be taking place in various communities across the state.

Some members of the community are also worried that the community is gradually becoming unsafe as cases of knife and matchet attacks happen on daily basis.

Some students of Kaduna State University residing in the community want more security beefed up in the area as they complain of constant attack anytime they go for study in the school at night.

“So many students have suffered series of matchet and knife attacks,  many lost phones and laptops to these hoodlums who have consistently attacked and manhandled both male and female students in this community,” a source said.

Residents said that it was timely intervention of security personnel that prevented massive damage.

They urged government to do more in the area of security in the area.

But while contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Aliyu Mukhtar confirmed the incident.

“Yes we are on top of the situation. We arrested the gang leader and eight others are on massive manhunt for others,” he added.
