A 40 year-old man, Ya’u Abubakar was in Gombe arrested by security operatives for allegedly raping an eight year old girl.
The ugly incident was confirmed to newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe State, Mary Malum.
She said, “On 19th September, 2018 at about 8pm, officers from Gombe division while on foot patrol and surveillance duties caught in action and arrested one, Ya’u Abubakar ‘m’ (40) of Kagarawal Quarters for raping an 8year old girl at Sabon Fegi Malam-Inna quarters, Gombe.
The suspect was alleged to have lured the minor to a point between two residential buildings with a promise of giving her one thousand (N1000) naira and raped her.
“The victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe for examination/treatment and the suspect has confessed to the crime”, said the PPRO,
stressing that the case would soon be charged to Court.
She also said on the 11th September 2018, the Police at Pero-Chonge division arrested six suspects for criminal conspiracy, causing hurt, trial by ordeal and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
The PPRO gave the names of the suspects as: Fatsuma Gidado ‘f’ (60) of Damjikiri village gwandum ward in Shongom LGA, Helen Ahmadu ‘f’ (32), Ayuba John ‘m’ (28), Christopher Elkanah ‘m’ (28), Ishaku Manus ‘m’ (23) and Salama Gidado ‘m’ (35), all of the same address.
The complainant alleged that one Hannatu Thomas ‘f’ (68) while mourning her late husband, was accused of witch-craft and was taken away from her home, beaten with brooms, machete and sticks.
“As a result, she sustained severe life threatening injuries, while preliminary investigation revealed that one Magaji Maxwell alleged that one Nathan David gave him a Mango fruit to eat, hence he was initiated into a witch-craft club and began to see beyond the ordinary beings.
“Thereafter he was instructed by Nathan David to bring the spirit of his father who in turn allegedly took the spirit to Hannatu Thomas, consequently, the father fell ill”, said the police spokeswoman.
Malum, a deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspects have confessed to the crimes and will soon be charge to court for prosecution.
She said that the Police in Gona division, based on a credible information and in synergy with Hunters and Vigilantees in the area, ambushed and succeeded in arresting a syndicate that specialized in cattle rustling.
The suspects arrested, according to her, are Hassan Yakubu male (57), Salisu Garba Alias Alarama (36) and Shaibu Mohammed (27) all males of Hayin Dogo Hayin Kori Misau and BCGA quarters respectively of Tabra quarters, Gombe.
According to the PPRO, animals found in their possession are one giant bull, a sheep and a ram all concealed in a dark tinted Nissan salon car with Reg.No. AS 626 GME and White Tayota Corolla Car with Reg. no. BB 924 KUJ.
She stated that preliminary investigation revealed that Salisu Garba is a habitual ex-convict believed to be their receiver.
Malum further explained that during the search of his house, another vehicle plate number AG 46 KK was recovered neatly concealed under his matrass.
“He has confessed that all the animals were stolen from Dadin-Kowa and handed over to him to disposed by One Alhaji Musa and Alhaji Buba Ali all of Dadin-Kowa who are at large.
“He admitted that this is the third set of animals he had received from Dadin- Kowa. Suspect will soon be charged to court for prosecution,” the police spokeswoman said
